Russia Withdraws Troops From Ukraine’s Snake Island

The war in Ukraine has taken another dimension as the country celebrated victory in Snake Island, the north-western Black Sea after Russia withdrew troops on Wednesday from the area.

Before this development occurred, the area has been fought over since the war began, before Russia revealed its forces have relinquished control of the place.

In response to the withdrawal, Moscow, according to reports says its a “goodwill gesture” to facilitate grain exports.

Meanwhile, officials say shells are continuing to rain down in the country’s east as Ukraine’s military welcomes Nato’s pledges.

So far, the withdrawal has prompted comments from Russia president, Vladimir Putin who has accused Nato of having imperial ambitions.

Interestingly, some countries, through their president have declared interest in supporting Ukraine.

The war has attracted attention to Nato as its Madrid summit came to a close, and world leaders who are part of the military alliance have been sharing their reactions.

During the French President Emmanuel Macron pledged his support for Ukraine, as he said it cannot stop. In his words, “Ukraine’s fight is the European Union and Nato’s fight”.

On the part of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, he says the UK will increase its defence spending to 2.5% of GDP by the end of the decade.

Johnson’s pledge came despite disagreements within his government over defence spending, with the PM insisting the “cost of freedom” is “always worth paying”.
