Tope Osoba: Family Demands Police Probe

The death of Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba, popularly known as Tope Osoba, has taken a fresh and troubling turn following claims by her fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, that she died at a police station in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Osoba, 40, died on August 4, 2026, months after publicly celebrating her recovery from breast cancer. Her death initially sparked speculation that the illness may have returned, but her family has dismissed claims that cancer was responsible for her passing.

Speaking during an interview with Celestial Reality Check, Onadeko said he received a late-night call from an unidentified person informing him that Osoba had died at a police station in Ikorodu.

The cleric said he was not told the exact station where she allegedly died but went to a nearby police station after receiving the information. He also disclosed that Osoba had earlier gone to visit a woman identified as Mrs Kehinde Osoba, accompanied by a hairdresser who had been staying with her.

Onadeko, who has faced questions over the actress’ final days, denied allegations that he or members of his family mistreated Osoba, diverted funds raised during her cancer treatment or played any role in her death.

He also rejected suggestions that complications from her previous battle with breast cancer caused her death.

The claims have, however, intensified demands for an independent investigation into what happened before the actress died. Her family has pointed to videos in which Osoba appeared emotionally distressed while discussing alleged challenges in her relationship, urging authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding her final hours.

Calls for further investigation have also come from actor and activist Yomi Fabiyi, who has asked that Osoba’s proposed August 13 burial in Iperu Remo, Ogun State, be suspended pending an autopsy and proper investigation.

Fabiyi, through his Break The Silence Foundation, said the circumstances surrounding the actress’ death raised enough questions to warrant official scrutiny and indicated plans to engage the Lagos State Police Command.

Osoba had previously undergone surgery and treatment after being diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2025, she announced that she had overcome the illness and subsequently returned to acting, describing her recovery as a significant victory.

With conflicting claims now surrounding her final moments, questions remain over where and how Osoba died and what happened before her death.

As of the time of reporting, the claim that the actress died at a police station had not been independently confirmed by the police, while the exact cause and circumstances of her death remain unclear.
