Former Spain international Álvaro Morata has placed Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen among the top three strikers in world football, praising the Super Eagles star’s quality both on and off the pitch.
Morata, a two-time UEFA Champions League winner, assessed while reflecting on his time playing alongside Osimhen at Galatasaray.
Speaking to Sporty TV, Morata described Osimhen as an exceptional player and person, highlighting his goalscoring ability, work rate and generosity towards teammates.
The former Real Madrid, Juventus and Chelsea forward said he particularly enjoyed playing alongside Osimhen, explaining that his teammate’s pace and movement made it easier to create scoring opportunities.
Morata recalled that when he played behind Osimhen, his main instruction was often to put the ball into space because he knew the Nigerian would attack it and finish.
The pair formed an effective partnership during their time in Istanbul, particularly while Galatasaray dealt with Mauro Icardi’s injury absence. Their combination of Morata’s movement and Osimhen’s pace and physical presence provided another dimension to the Turkish club’s attack.
Their contribution also helped Galatasaray enjoy a successful campaign, with the club winning the Turkish Süper Lig and Turkish Cup. Osimhen further underlined his importance by finishing as the league’s leading goalscorer.
Beyond his performances on the pitch, Morata also spoke warmly about Osimhen’s personality, describing him as someone who was constantly willing to help others.
Osimhen has continued to establish himself as one of Africa’s leading football stars after his breakthrough spell at Napoli, where he played a major role in the club’s Serie A title triumph.
His combination of pace, strength, aerial ability and finishing has made him one of the most sought-after centre-forwards in world football.
Morata’s latest assessment adds to the growing recognition of Osimhen’s status at the highest level, with the Spanish striker now placing the Nigerian firmly among the elite strikers in the game.
