Haiti Earthquake: Almost 2,000 People Reported Dead

The death toll in the earthquake that claimed lives in Haiti on Saturday has increased to at least 1,941 people.

According to officials, the figure surged from 500 to the current figure now.

While many are still missing after the 7.2-magnitude tremor, nearly 10,000 people have been reported injured.

The effects of Tropical Storm Grace in Caribbean nation have hampered rescue work, especially heavy rains.

Reports from the UN reveals that apart from deaths recorded, other effects of the incident are that it has rendered at least 500,000 children homeless thereby limiting them from having access to safe water and food.

A representative of the UN Children’s Fund (Unicef) in the country, Bruno Maes has made comments concerning the situation. Maes said, “Countless Haitian families who have lost everything due to the earthquake are now living literally with their feet in the water due to the flooding.”
