Super Eagles and Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen has capped a sensational year in football by being named Sportsman of the Year at the 2025 GQ Türkiye Men of the Year Awards, cementing his status as one of the world’s elite forwards.
The 26-year-old collected the honour at a glamorous black-tie gala in Istanbul, where GQ Türkiye celebrated excellence across sports, entertainment, and culture. Osimhen’s electrifying performances in the 2024/25 season were at the heart of his recognition. He scored 37 goals and provided seven assists in 41 appearances, playing a crucial role in Galatasaray’s Süper Lig and Turkish Cup triumphs. His brilliance also prompted the club to make his loan from Napoli permanent in a record €75 million transfer, setting a new benchmark in Turkish football.
Continuing his impressive form into the current season, Osimhen has already netted 11 goals in 14 matches, solidifying his reputation as one of the most lethal strikers in world football.
In his acceptance speech, Osimhen thanked GQ Türkiye, his teammates, and fans, dedicating the award to his “Galatasaray family” and pledging to maintain his high standards for both club and country.
The accolade adds to a growing list of career highlights, following his recognition as African Footballer of the Year in 2023, and underscores his rising influence as one of Nigeria’s foremost sporting ambassadors on the global stage.
