South Africa Bid To Host Champions League Finals

The South Africa Football Association (Safa) have expressed interest to host both men and women African Champions League finals.

Safa started the process by submitting a letter of intent to the Confederation of African Football (Caf) while the association’s vice president, Gladwyn White confirmed the country’s intentions on Friday.

Rather than a two-legged tie as previously had been the tradition, the men’s final this season will be a single game for the third time.

Going memory lane, Casablanca, a Moroccan city hosted last the final last year, in which Al Ahly beat South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs to give the Egyptians their tenth title.

The second edition of the Women’s Champions League finals is scheduled to be held later in 2022.

The inaugural tournament in November 2021 featured seven regional qualifiers alongside Wadi Degla from host nation Egypt.

Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa were crowned champions after lifting the trophy, following a 2-0 win over Hasacas Ladies from Ghana.
