Naomi Osaka: Tennis Star Withdraws From French Open

Renowned female tennis star Naomi Osaka has on Monday disclosed that she is withdrawing from the French Open.

The talented star made this development known after refusing to speak to the media at the grand slam, CNN reports.

Osaka who said she would “take some time away from the court” also revealed on Twitter that she was pulling out so that “everyone can get back to focusing on the tennis going on in Paris.”

On the specific reasons why the four-time major winner made such decision, it was also stated in her statement on Twitter that she “suffered long bouts of depression” since winning her first Grand Slam title in 2018.

Considering the state of her mental health, Osaka has decided not to participate in any news conferences during the French Open,

Meanwhile, she is also hoping that any fines she incurred would go toward a mental health charity.

Roland Garros has announced in a statement that Osaka was fined $15,000 for not talking to the media after her straight-set victory on Sunday.
