The highly anticipated heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury must “definitely” take place by the end of 2025, or risk never happening, Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has declared.
According to the Matchroom Boxing chief, the showdown between the two British boxing stars, which has been mooted for several years, is now approaching a critical timeline.
Hearn’s response was “Yes, definitely,” after he was asked if there was a deadline of next year for the bout to happen.
Hearn’s comments come as Joshua, 34, prepares to challenge Daniel Dubois for the IBF heavyweight title at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
While the plan for the bout is on, thirty-six-year-old Fury is ready to face the holder of the other three recognised world titles, Oleksandr Usyk, in a rematch this December.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Hearn sad, “I do think AJ-Fury will happen regardless of whether Fury wins or not, but the size of the fight depends on their next two results.”
“If AJ beats Dubois and Fury beats Usyk, you’ve got the biggest fight in the history of the sport ever. If one loses and the other wins, it’s still a monster fight,” Hearn added.
