The signing of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig to Chelsea has been confirmed with a staggering £53million release clause.
Reports from Evening Standard reveal that, Werner’s a five-year with the Blues is worth around £200,000 a week.
Speaking on the new development, Werner said: “I am delighted to be signing for Chelsea, it is a very proud moment for me to be joining this great club.
“I of course want to thank RB Leipzig, the club and the fans, for four fantastic years. You will forever be in my heart.
“I look forward to next season with my new team-mates, my new manager and of course the Chelsea fans. Together we have a very successful future ahead of us.”
On the history of the deal, Liverpool were widely expected to lure the Germany international to Anfield this summer but decided against pursuing Werner when Chelsea’s bid came to light.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s statement of intent is clear and they are understood to have made Werner their highest-paid player.
Werner 24, linking up with fellow new signing Hakim Ziyech, whose summer £33m move from Ajax was agreed in February will join Chelsea when the Bundesliga season concludes.
Surprisingly, having come to the fore at Leipzig with 92 goals in 154 appearances to date, he remains one of Europe’s hottest properties.
On his national assignment, he made his Germany debut, against England, in 2017, scoring 11 goals in 29 international appearances since.
