Ukraine Army To Recruit Civilians As Russia Hits Kyiv

The conflict in Ukraine has prompted the country’s defence force to call for civilian recruits, regardless of age.

This development was contained in a tweet by the force after it issued statement from the commander of troops who said: “No age restrictions” – indicating that minors might be allowed too.

With no mention of minors, a new statement from the defence Minister, Alexey Reznikov makes a clarification that the loosening in age restrictions refers to people over 60.

Mr Reznikov in the statement wrote, “I decided, in agreement with the Commander of the Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine… to involve in the Troops of the Patriots [those] over 60 years old, who are morally and physically ready to resist and defeat the enemy.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine has disclosed that the attack has extended from Ukrainian capital, Kyiv to northern district of the city.

The attack involves several explosions, armoured vehicles advancing through the city.

In reaction to the situation, Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy, has addressed the nation and has appealed to Russia for a ceasefire, stressing that says 137 Ukrainian citizens – both soldiers and civilians – died on Thursday.
