India Becomes Third Highest Country With COVID-19

India on Monday become the third nation with highest infection of covid-19 globally.

According to DW, this new development has made India go above Russia in overall coronavirus infections, as they are now placed behind the US and Brazil.

The effect of the spread of the pandemic has made authorities reversed a decision to reopen the popular Taj Mahal as the number of infected persons increase.

Speaking on the confirmation of the alarming number of cases recorded, the country’s health ministry disclosed that, over 24,000 new cases were confirmed on Sunday.

While Russia currently has just over 681,000 cases, the new cases in India added to the former, now makes the total number of infections in India to 697,258.

Interestingly, India follows behind the US and Brazil in total coronavirus infections.

Johns Hopkins Institute has revealed that, the US and Brazil had reported 2.8 million and 1.6 million cases, respectively as of Monday.

Meanwhile, at least 20,000 people in India have died from the virus, far fewer fatalities than other badly hit countries have registered.

Considering safety measures put in place to avoid the spread of the virus, India on Sunday announced it was reversing its decision to reopen the country’s most famous tourist attraction, the Taj Mahal.

The place is Located in the city of Agra, 200 kilometers (125 miles) southeast from the capital of New Delhi.

Surprisingly, Agra was the site of one of the country’s first big clusters of coronavirus and remains the worst-hit city in Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state.
