Facebook Bans Myanmar Military From Its Plaforms

Myanmar’s military and its affiliates have been banned from the platform of Social media giant, Facebook.

This development occurred after Facebook discovered the effects of allowing the unrest in the country, Tatmadaw [Myanmar military] on its platform, Facebook and Instagram.

The company, after tagged the effects as risk said, “the risks of allowing the Tatmadaw [Myanmar military] on Facebook and Instagram are too great”.

Going memory lane, the military has used Facebook to boost its claim of voter fraud in the 2020 election.

So far, it has been recorded that half of Myanmar’s population use Facebook, which for many is synonymous with the internet.

Following the 1 February coup, Facebook had just days earlier already banned the military’s main page for breaching its guidelines.

Since the military seized power, it has arrested protesters, ordered internet blackouts and also banned social media platforms – including Facebook.
