Chadwick Boseman

Late actor, Boseman Chadwick has been honoured with a special dedication by the MTV Video Music Awards.

According to an official statement on his official social media channels on Friday, after a years-long battle with colon cancer, the “Black Panther” star gave up the Ghost at the age of 43, Fox News reports.

In order to reference the late actor, host Keke Palmer offered a brief video message in honor of the actor, as the show began.

Palmer made an introductory statement about Chadwick and his demise. She said,

“Before we get into the music tonight, we need to talk about the devastating loss of Chadwick Boseman, an actor whose talent and passion is a true inspiration to all the fans he touched and everyone he encountered,’’

“We dedicate tonight’s show to a man whose spirit touched so many. He is a true hero. Not just on-screen but in everything he did. His impact lives forever.”

Before the death of the renowned actor, it was also confirmed that that his wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, was by his side when he passed on.

“A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much,” his family said in the statement. “From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more- all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.”

During her introduction, Palmer, also talked about the Black Lives Matter movement, with emphasis on why the voice of this generation should be heard.

“As rough as it’s been, there have been incredible moments of inspiration that have given my generation hope,”

“We’ve seen heroes going above and beyond, whether they drive a delivery truck, work at a grocery store, or serve on the front lines in a hospital. And with the Black Lives Matter movement, we’ve seen our generation step up, take to the streets, and make sure our voices will be heard. Enough is enough!”

Speaking further, she made reference to the killing of Jacob Blake by a police officer Kenosha, with an emphasis on police brutality and injustice.

She also stated that systemic racism should end. She also said: “Music has that power. Music can help us heal,”  “It’s all love, and that’s what tonight is about.”
