Ash Sarkar: Journalist Receives Death Threat After Sharing Picture

Ash Sarkar

A journalist named Ash Sarkar has received “frightening” messages after posting a picture that was misinterpreted as an endorsement of the Reading terror attack.

According to Evening Standard, Ms Sarkar was sent death threats and threats of sexual violence after sharing the photo of herself eating an orange ice lolly in Springfield Park, east London, shortly after the stabbing spree that left three people dead.

A screen shot from Ms Sarkar’s phone shows that the picture was taken shortly before 6pm on Saturday, an hour and a half before the attack in Forbury Gardens. It was also captioned with three orange emojis.

The left-wing commentator who condemned the killings as a “violent and senseless” act, said she had not been aware of the attack when posting the photo and Speaking on Good Morning Britain today.

While making comments on the inhumane act,  she said: “It primarily makes me feel really angry because there are three families who are grieving at the moment.

“Three families who have just had their whole world torn apart because of the violent and senseless act of one person and I don’t see how it helps them at all to use it as a pretext to send racist abuse and death threats to somebody who is just as horrified and just as outraged by this violence as anybody else.”
