Some Lekki residents have urged the Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to suspend the planned resumption of toll at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge and the Lekki-Epe Expressway in the state.
The residents under the aegis of Lekki Peninsula Phase 1 Residents Association, made this known to the governor of the state, through a written letter.
Prior to this development occurred, the government announced that it will open the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge and the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
According to the Chairman of the association, Yomi Idowu, some yet to be addressed socio-economic and critical issues which Nigerians are experiencing at the moment, is the major reason that prompted the writing of the open letter, written and signed to the governor, on Tuesday.
The residents also tagged the move by the government, to recommence tolling unjust, oppressive, and illegal. The concluding part of the letter read:
“Your Excellency, we feel it is expedient to bring all the above to your attention and to particularly note that the general mood of the people suggests that LCC should refrain from collecting tolls at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge and the Lekki-Epe Expressway until these fundamental issues are addressed. To do otherwise will be to needlessly stoke the tension which pervades the nation.
“We urge Your Excellency to act to exercise maximum restraints at this point and to immediately suspend this planned resumption of tolling at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge in the overriding interest of peace and order in our community,” the residents said.
