Maina Ordered To Remain In Prison Till End Of Trial

Maina Abdulrasheed

The former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Taskforce Team, Abulrasheed Maina, has been ordered to be remanded in prison on Friday, till the end of his trial.

This development came as a result of the order from the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday.

Justice Okon Abang made the order following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s prosecution counsel, Mr Mohammed Abubakar.

Prior to his remand, Maina is being prosecuted by the EFCC on N2bn money laundering charges, but jumped bail and fled to the Republic of Niger.

Following his extradition to Nigeria earlier on Thursday, he was produced in court for the first time on Friday.

Based on the ruling on the EFCC’s application for a remand order, Justice Abang said, “The defendant is already on bench warrant having jumped bail.

“So he shall be remanded in correctional centre pending the conclusion of the trial.”

Meanwhile, the judge has acceded to the request of Ajaji Abel, Maina’s defence, to adjourn the case till December 8, to enable him to prepare adequately for the case.
