Nemanja Matic Joins AS Roma On Free Transfer

Serbian football player, Nemanja Matic has joined Serie A club, Roma on a free transfer,  after his contract at Manchester United ran out.

This development follows the plan Red Devils have rebuild their side in the summer transfer window as Matic had been on the hunt for a new club after confirming he would not be given a new contract at Manchester United.

The midfielder won’t obviously be new to the Portuguese tactician having previously worked with him at Chelsea and later at United.

Matic, 33, is coming at a time Roma made history, winning their first-ever European trophy, as they beat Feyenoord to lift the inaugural Conference League in Tirana.

The feat for Mourinho is not enough as he plans to continue building and keeping the team strong in the Europa League, after qualify for the Champions League,

Meanwhile, the Giallorossi haven’t participated in the competition since 2018, until Mourinho arrived at the club.

Matic joins senior players in the team such as Rui Patricio, Chris Smalling, Leonardo Spinazzola to strengthen Mourinho’s team.

On his feat so far for United, Matic has made 189 appearances for over five years and scored four goals, but won no trophies in his time at the club, losing an FA Cup and Europa League final once.

Before coming to Old Trafford, Matic made 151 appearances at Chelsea and won two league titles, each under Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
