Man Utd And England Forward, Marcus Rashford Speaks To Barack Obama

Marcus Rashford Speaks To Barack Obama

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has had a conversation with former US President, Barack Obama on how young people can impact society.

This development was borne out of a campaign that the England forward initiated, last year during the coronavirus pandemic.

The campaign which was established to fight child food poverty gave him the talented footballer the opportunity to be appointed an MBE.

Moreover, the 23-year-old also went ahead to set up a book club to get disadvantaged children reading more.

In reaction to all these feats, 59-year-old Obama made some comments. He said, “A lot of the young people I meet – including Marcus – they’re ahead of where I was when I was 23,”

“They’re already making changes and being positive forces in their communities.”

Interestingly, both Obama and Rashford discussed issues that affects children while growing up, which coincidentally affected them also, while they were growing up.

While Rashford spoke over a video conference, the most similar of all the issues they experienced was that they were both raised by single mothers.

As for 23-year-old Rashford, speaking to the 44th US President while sitting in his kitchen was “quite surreal.”

He also said, “But, immediately, he made me feel at ease,”

“It wasn’t long before I realised just how aligned our experiences as children were in shaping the men you see today – adversity, obstacles and all.

“I genuinely enjoyed every minute of it. When President Obama speaks, all you want to do is listen.”
