Children’s Day: Nigerians Celebrate Special Day With Children

Happy Children's Day 2021

Today, May 27, 2021 has been set aside as a special day to celebrate children in Nigeria.

The essence of Children’s Day still remains, to increase awareness on the rights and education of children every year.

The day marks a celebration of children, raising awareness for issues that affect children and helping us appreciate that they are the future of our societies.

Considering the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on children, this year’s theme for the 2021 International Children’s Day has been tagged: “Unite to reverse the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on children”

With a closer look at some factors affecting the growth and well-being of children, there is a need to encourage and support children and a need for government and private sectors to partner in order to address issues of poverty, malnutrition, poor infrastructure for learning and insecurity.

Apart from the conventional issues that children encounter, there are more salient ones like:  “Out-of-School Children”, “Child Bride”, “Child Labour” and “Violence against Children” are tackled and reduced drastically in Nigeria.

Children’s day celebration varies between different countries. In Nigeria, Children’s day is celebrated on the 27 of every year.

Although, Children’s Day is celebrated globally by most of the countries in the world on June 1, Universal Children’s Day takes place annually on November 20.
