Somalia Bans Public Events Ahead Of Poll Protests

Public gatherings in Somalia have been suspended as Covid-19 cases surge.

Since President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo’s term has ended, the pan to may affect Friday’s planned protests against the political uncertainty in the country.

After the suspension, the council of ministers met on WeSomalia, dnesday and was briefed by the health minister on the coronavirus situation in the country.

The effect of coronavirus in the country has led to cases of the deadly pandemic. In confirmation of this, the ministry of health has recorded more positive cases and fatalities this month.

On precautions and preventive measures, the ministers directed that all non-essential workers work from home to reduce the spread of the virus.

According to the new directives, movement between regions and unnecessary travel will also be limited.

At the moment, Somalia has 5,500 confirmed cases of coronavirus including 172 deaths.

There are chances and hope of the country receiving a shipment of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine later this month.
