COVID-19 Cases In UK Increase To Highest Rate Since June

Covid-19

Since the start of June, the cases of coronavirus in UK has increased to the highest rate.

The implication of this development is that there may be a second second wave of the deadly pandemic.

So far, a total of 6,732 people tested positive for Covid-19 in England in the week to August 26 – the highest seven-day number since the week to June 3, Evening Standard reports.

According to the latest Test and Trace data, it marks a six per cent in infections on the previous week.

On the signs that there may be a second wave of the spread, Health Secretary Matt Hancock acknowledged that a second spike in the pandemic remained possible in Britain after the figures were released.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s on Programme on Thursday, he revealed that while efforts to curb transmission are “going well”, authorities remained “very worried” about a potential second wave.

At the moment, self-isolation is the option given to close contacts of people who have tested positive for the virus have been reached,  since the launch of the Test and Trace programme in England in May, 270,559.
